
Federal Prosecutors in Florida announced the capture of Douglas Bennett, age 76. According to a FoxNews.com article, Bennet disappeared in 1975 from Connecticut after he was supposed to turn himself in to serve a prison sentence for the brutal rape of a 22-year-old woman in Wethersfield, Connecticut that occurred on Valentines day of the same year.
In 1975, Bennet was convicted by a jury for robbery, kidnapping, sexual contact, rape, and sexual deviate intercourse. He was sentenced to 9-18 years in Connecticut state prison, set to turn himself in to carry out his sentence, Douglas would have other plans.
He would spend the next 44 years on the run, during this time around 1977, Douglas Bennett assumed the identity of a child who, according to the United States department of justice, died in Holyoke, Massachusetts 75 years ago. Bennett’s luck ran out sometime around July of 2016, when he reapplied for a passport using the name, and Social Security number of the unknown child.
A finger print comparison confirmed that Bennet was the same person convicted in Connecticut in 1975. He was arrested November 4, 2020 if convicted, Bennett faces a maximum penalty of 12 years in a federal prison.
